MEDREGION “Activity 3 & Activity 7 workshop with MSFD Competent
Authorities” 20st April 2021, (Remotely)
The scope of the workshop is to present the results of the work of Activity 3 and Activity 7 to the Competent Authorities with the aim to discuss with them challenges encountered and to perform surveys to collect their feedbacks, needs and experiences.

Six-month extension of MEDREGION project
(1st February 2021 – 31st July 2021)
The initial planned duration of the action was 24 months starting from 1st February 2019. Due to COVID 19 crisis which resulted to the lack of official reported MSFD data, a six-month extension of implementation period (30 months) was agreed by the European Union (AMENDMENT N° 2 TO GRANT AGREEMENT N°110661/2018/794286/SUB/ENV.C2) (1st February 2021-31st July 2021).

Within the frame of Steering Committee meeting taken place on 22nd December 2020, activity leaders presented the progress of each activity and the main issues of concern.

MEDREGION Activity 7: GES FOR MED 2020” technical workshop dedicated to Sea birds, Marine mammals, and Marine Reptiles.
The three days technical workshops organized within the frame of Activity 7 gathered national and Mediterranean experts on the MSFD implementation and engaged them in a facilitated dialogue tin order to establish future consistent sub-regional and regional approaches to GES. The specific components of the MSFD Biodiversity descriptor D1 were Sea birds, Marine mammals and Marine Reptiles.

– 10th of December 2020: “GES FOR MED 2020” technical workshop dedicated to Marine mammals, (Remotely)
– 11th of December 2020 “GES FOR MED 2020” technical workshop dedicated to Marine Reptiles, (Remotely)
MEDREGION “3rd MSFD Competent Authorities Board Meeting” 23rd July 2020, (Remotely)
This was a one-day meeting with main issues of discussion about the progress of each activity in relation to meet CAs needs, the availability of official data, and the conduction of the Strategic Guidance document. The participants of this meeting were Mediterranean MSFD competent authorities, UN Environment/Mediterranean Action Plan, and Activity leaders.

MEDREGION workshops of Activity 3, 7 and 6.
12th – 14th of February 2020, Rome
Venue: ISPRA, via Vitaliano Brancati 60,00144 Rome – Italy
This is a three days event comprising of the Annual General Assembly (GA) followed by a discussion on the 3rd Steering Committee Meeting (SC) together with the invited stakeholders and the Advisory Board. The event took place in Rome, Italy, at the premises of Istituto Superiore per la Protezione e la Ricerca Ambientale (ISPRA).
During the GA, activity leaders presented the annual progress of their activities and discussions with the stakeholders took place, whereas during the workshops of activities 3, 7 and 6 more detailed presentations on the scientific results were reported together with all issues encountered so far of the MEDREGION project.

MEDREGION side Event: Tools and methods for tracking progress towards achieving Good Environmental Status through the MSFD/EcAp with a focus on biodiversity

in UNEP/MAP Side Events – 21st Meeting of the Contracting Parties to the Convention for the Protection of Marine Environment and the Coastal Region of the Mediterranean and its Protocols, 1-5 December 2019
During this side-event HCMR presented methodologies and tools developed by various partners as part of the EU-funded projects MEDCIS and MEDREGION in order to support the assessment of the environmental status under the MSFD. The presentation focused on the results of testing the NEAT assessment method in the Saronikos Gulf, on the Benthic Habitat Risk Assessment through an index assessing anthropogenic pressures using a GIS tool, and on the method developed under MEDCIS, to assess the implementation progress and the effectiveness of the programmes of measures for the MSFD.

MEDREGION 2nd Steering Committee meeting

The 2nd Steering Committee meeting took place in MATTM (Ministry of the Environment; Land and Sea) in Rome where the 6th months project progress was extensively discussed together with all of the activities’ issues of concern and the way forward
